Annually South Africa commentates and highlights the plight of people with disabilities from the 3 November-3 December, this is known as Disability Rights Awareness Month (DRAM).

The month culminates on the 3rd of December which is also International Day for persons with disabilities.

Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre put together a short programme on the 1st December 2023 for its inpatients to celebrate this day.

The programme sort to motivate current patients on their rehabilitation journey, 2 short motivational talks where given by ex-patients, namely Karin Coetzee, who suffered a stroke and still has residual speech fallout and Sihle Fela who suffered a Spinal Cord injury. Both highlighted their rehabilitation journey and re-integration into the community and highlighted that one’s disability does not limit you from living a purposeful and meaningful life. Ex-patient Zakariyah Torien, who was diagnosed with Gillian Barre syndrome rendered a musical item was inspiration.
